Interior barroco- Baroque interior

En diciembre salió publicada en la revista Miniaturas, otra de mis escenas. Esta vez era una escena navideña en un interior barroco.

In December another of my scenes was published in the journal Miniaturas. It was a nativity scene in a Baroque interior.

El paso a paso completo con todos los adornos lo tenéis en la revista, pero como ya estamos casi terminando el mes de enero, pospondré esos tutos para las próximas Navidades, sin embargo, me gustaría contaros cómo he construido la escena y cómo he hecho algunos accesorios, porque creo que os puede ser de utilidad.

As we are almost finishing January, Iḿ going to postpone the tutorial of the Christmas ornaments for the next Christmas, however, I would like to tell you how I built the scene and how I made some accessories, because I think it can be useful.

He trabajado la superficie de cada tablero de MDF de forma independiente para ensamblarlos posteriormente.

En estas imágenes podéis ver cómo están hechos los paneles (he usado madera de balsa y algunos listones estrechos), los ladrillos de la chimenea están hechos con una lámina de corcho adhesivo.

I worked the surface of each MDF board independently to assemble later.
In those pictures you can see how the panels are made (I used balsa wood and some narrow strips), the bricks of the fireplace are made with a sheet of adhesive cork.

Tras pintar todo de blanco con pintura acrílica, he utilizado pintura dorada en relieve para algunos adornos de la pared. Si os gusta, se puede quedar así, sin embargo el dorado me resultaba algo recargado, de modo que posteriormente lo pinté de blanco otra vez.

After painting the walls white, I used gold relief paint for the wall decoration. The result is OK but the gold...I found it overdecorate so I painted it white again.

He añadido algunos elementos vegetales de papel grueso para terminar de adornar y he ensuciado un poco las paredes con cera y sombras de ojos para hacer las pátinas.

I added some vegetable elements of thick paper to finish decorating and messed a bit the walls with wax and eye shadows.

He ensamblado las tres planchas y he forrado el suelo con listones de madera. El espacio interior de la chimenea es una lámina corcho adhesivo, pintado como si fuera piedra. Una vez instalada la chimenea he empezado a trabajar con los muebles.

I have assembled the three boards and them I have covered the floor with wooden slats. The interior of the fireplace is an adhesive cork sheet, painted like stone. After installing the fireplace I have started to work with the furniture.

And that is the result.

Aplicando la técnica del pan de oro, he dorado un sillón de palacio. Después le he dado con gesso para retirarlo rápidamente quedándose en las hendiduras.
La tela del sillón es algodón blanco, y para que no quedara soso le he hecho unos estampados con unos sellos de scrapbooking y tinta para estampar telas.

I gilded an armchair with gold leaf. Then I applied gesso and I removed it quickly to get it only in the grooves.
The chair fabric is white cotton but decorated with stamps of scrapbooking and fabric ink.

La alfombra está pintada a mano con pinturas para tela, en este enlace podéis ver más ejemplos.

The carpet is handpainted with fabric paints, you can see more examples here.

Aún no he terminado esta escena, quizás le ponga una cuna, o ¿qué se yo?, pero funciona bien como expositor de joyas.

I have not finished this scene yet, I do not know what it would be, but it works well as jewelery display.

Antes de Navidad me dediqué a hacer joyería, y bueno, cuando mis compañeras de trabajo vieron lo que había hecho se pusieron como locas y me quedé sin nada, de modo que ahora estoy otra vez haciendo tartas, pasteles, carteles en miniatura...

Before Christmas I spended a lot of time making some jewelry, and well, when my coworkers saw the result they got crazy about them and let me with nothing, so I am now again making pies, cakes, miniature posters ...

Una escena "P"erfecta - A "P"erfect scene

Así he querido llamar a esta escena en miniatura, porque el elemento protagonista es una letra P con luces. Toda la escena ha sido una excusa para recrear un interior industrial con cierto aire vintage, estructuras de hierro, suelo de cemento pulido, paredes de ladrillo, muebles sesenteros, y objetos de coleccionismo igualmente retro...en fin, espero que os guste.

This is the title I wanted for this miniature scene, because the protagonist is a letter P with lights. The whole scene was an excuse to recreate a vintage industrial interior, with iron structures, polished concrete floors, brick walls, sixties furniture and retro collectibles objects ... well, hope you like it.

Para una de las paredes he hecho los ladrillos con plantilla y masilla plástica tapagrietas. He pintado a esponja lo que serán unas manchas de humedad que se dejarán ver a través de la pintura blanca.

For one of the walls I used a briks templete and puty, them I painted the damp stains with sponge and them with very dilute white paint.

Otra de las paredes la he hecho simulando estar cubierta por unas planchas de hierro con remaches,
para ello, he utilizado papel de acuarela grueso y le he pegado unas tiras de papel. Sobre ellas a intervalos regulares, he pegado con loctite unos adornos para las uñas.
Para darle la textura del hierro, he pintado toda la superficie con pintura acrílica negra, he aplicado sombras de los ojos metálicas plateadas y grises. Para fijar los polvos se puede dar un barniz en espray.

The other wall is made pretending to simulate an iron surface with rivets. To get that look I used thick watercolor paper and I glued some strips of paper. On them and at regular intervals, I glued some loctite nail decorations.
To give iron texture, I painted the entire surface with black acrylic paint, I applied metallic silver and gray eye shadows. To set the powders you can use spray varnish.

Con cartón pluma he realizado un elemento arquitectónico en una esquina que servirá para esconder la pila y el interruptor de la luz.

With foam board I made an architectural element in a corner that serves to hide the battery and the switch light.

El suelo está hecho simulando cemento pulido, es masilla plástica bien lijada y pintada a esponja con acrílico. Cuando he tenido las tres superficies terminadas, he ensamblado los tres planos con canutillo

The floor is well sanded plastic putty and them painted with acrylic with sponge, it simulates polished concrete. When I had finished the three surfaces, I have joined with glue and little sticks. 

El alma de esta escena es una vieja letra P con luces. Para hacerla, he partido de una letra de madera, aunque la base se puede hacer fácilmente con papel o cartón.
Le he hecho los agujeros donde irán las luces. He cortado una tira de papel grueso de acuarela y la he pegado alrededor.
He pintado con pintura acrílica y para envejecerla he aplicado cera y sombras de ojos. Las luces son microLEDs.

The soul of this scene is an old letter P with lights. To make it, I started from a wooden letter, although the base can be easily made with cardboard.
I have made the holes where the lights go. I cut a strip of thick watercolor paper and I glued around.
I've painted with acrylic paint and to age it and I applied wax and eye shadows.
The lights are Microleds.

Tenía un mueble de cocina que he transformado con pintura negra y lija. En cada estante he puesto papeles de colores para darle alegría a la escena, ya que abundan los tonos neutros, y lo he llenado de libros.

It had a kitchen cabinet that I transformed with black paint and sandpaper. I put inside colored paper to brighten up the scene because all colours are very neutral.
I filled the cabinet with lot of books.

Como ya hice en otra ocasión, con una bandeja de poliuretano, y un retal de cuero, he realizado un diván. El cuero estaba muy manchado de modo que lo he teñido con tinte para zapatos marrón. Las patas son de alambre galvanizado.

As I did on another occasion, with a tray of polyurethane and leather scrap, I made a chaise lounge. The leather was very stained so I dyed with dye brown shoes. The legs are made of galvanized wire.

El resto de elementos decorativos son imágenes buscadas en Internet de mapas, gráficos educativos, carteles metálicos, libros médicos, señales de tráfico, letras de óptico, etc

The other decorative elements are searched on the Internet, images of maps, educational charts, metal signs, medical books, signs, optical lettering, etc.

I wish this year that all the different human tides with they own demands and colours join together united in a single and huge colorful tide to defend those things that we know are fair and right.

Libros sobre miniaturas- books about miniatures

Desde que empecé a hacer miniaturas he comprado muchos libros sobre el tema, casi todos por Internet, lo cual facilita por ejemplo comprar ejemplares de segunda mano a precios irrisorios, sin embargo el mayor inconveniente es que no se pueden hojear, de modo que la portada del libro y la opinión de otras personas sobre el ejemplar en cuestión, suelen ser las únicas referencias que tenemos, por ello, muchas veces me he desilusionado al recibir el libro en cuestión.

Since I began doing miniatures, I have bought many books about this issue. The majority of them, bought online, wich facilitates for example to buy very cheap second hand books. However the biggest drawback is that you can not browse them, so the book cover and the opinion of others are our only references, this is the reason because many times I've disappointed when the book arrived. 

Ninguno de los libros que he comprado me ha parecido realmente malo, pero es cierto que algunos no los recomendaría por ser escuetos en fotos, arduos en detalles, pasados de moda, difíciles de leer, poco útiles, o simplemente poco atractivos.
Por tanto, la entrada de hoy trata sobre libros que sí recomiendo, y que creo que os gustará tener. Sé que algunos de ellos son bastante famosos, pero aún así no puedo dejar de citarlos.
Desgraciadamente, la oferta de libros en español es nula, de modo que el idioma puede ser un hándicap para algunos. 

None of the books I've bought seemed to me really bad, but it is true that I do not recommend some of them for many reasons: lack of photographs, difficult details , old fashioned ideas, books hard to read, unhelpful, or just unattractive.
So today's post is about books I do recommend, and I think you will like to have. I know some of them are quite famous, but I have to mention them.
Unfortunately, the supply of books about miniatures in Spanish is zero, so the language can be a handicap for spanish speakers.

Os recomiendo que visitéis los blogs de los autores en el caso de que lo tengan, pues esa será la mejor referencia de todas, ya que a veces lo que unas personas buscan no tiene nada que ver con lo que nosotros buscamos. Yo por ejemplo, necesito buenas fotografías a color, para que un libro sobre miniaturas me entusiasme. Y es cierto que hay libros buenos con un montón de esquemas para hacer muebles o detalles arquitectónicos, pero si no tienen fotos y sólo se ven esquemas...bufff es como leer el Ulises de Joyce.
Os he puesto unos pequeños vídeos pasando las hojas para que os hagáis una idea de como son por dentro. Al fin y al cabo, eso es lo que hacemos todos cuando tenemos un libro en las manos, espero que los autores no se sientan molestos.

Os pido disculpas por la calidad de los vídeos, no os riáis ;-).

If it is possible, I recommend you to visit the blogs of the authors because that will be the best reference of all, in fact, sometimes what some people look for has nothing to do with what we seek, for instance, when I'm looking for a book of miniatures I need good color photographs to be really interested. Of course there are good books with lots of technical drawings to make furniture or architectural details, but if you only have diagrams and there are not photographs ... bufff that is like reading Joyce's Ulysses.
You can watch some videos turning the pages, I try to give you an idea of how they are inside. After all, that's what we all do when we have a book in hand, I hope the authors do not I feel upset.
I must say sorry for the videos quality, please, donn't laugh ;-)

Para mí es un libro delicioso desde todos los puntos de vista. Es pura inspiración, pero también es información, técnicas, muchos proyectos, claridad en las explicaciones, fotografías maravillosas y escenas llenas de belleza.
Creo que no es necesario saber francés para disfrutarlo.
Podéis visitar el blog de Lea, y acercaros así a su particular estilo además también ofrece algunos tutoriales y sobre todo, imágenes muy inspiradoras.

To me this is a delightful book from every point of view. It's pure inspiration, but also information, techniques, many projects, clear explanations, wonderful photographs and scenes full of beauty.
I think it is not necessary to speak French to enjoy it.
You can visit Lea blog to get close to her particular style. She also offers some tutorials and above all, very inspiring images.

Este libro os lo aconsejo sólo si entendéis bien el inglés, ya que nos es un libro de proyectos propiamente dicho, es mas bien una obra llena de información sobre arquitectura de la época, con multitud de referencias geográficas que nos posibilitan ampliar información por Internet, (incluso planificar viajes) . Hay multitud de ilustraciones y fotografías con detalles decorativos, arquitectónicos, objetos cotidianos y accesorios típicos, mobiliario...es decir es una obra imprescindible para no cometer anacronismos y construir casas o escenas de los Tudor y los Estuardo de forma precisa.
Ni que decir tiene que, también me parece muy muy útil, si se está interesado en estilos populares, rústicos, medievales, fantásticos...

I recommend this book only if you understand English well, even though this is not a book of project itself, it is rather a book full of information about tudor and stuart architecture , with many geographical references that enable us to expand information on the Internet, (including travel planning). There are plenty of illustrations and photographs with decorative and architectural details, everyday objects, typical accessories, furniture, etc in order to avoid committing anachronisms while building Tudor and Stuart houses or scenes.
Needless to say that I also find very useful, if you are interested in popular, rustic, medieval, fantastic styles, etc.

Los libros de Angie Scarr, me parecen imprescindibles para perderle el miedo al fimo. Hay proyectos sencillos para principiantes y otros mucho más complicados para cuando nos vayamos soltando. Lo más importante es que nos dotan de conocimientos para que nosotros podamos intuitivamente desarrollar ideas nuevas.
A pesar de estar en inglés, creo que se entienden muy bien, ya que las imágenes son buenas y los procesos están muy claros.

Angie Scarr books are esential to lose the fear of fimo.
There are simple projects for beginners and other more complicated. But the most important thing is those books provide us with knowledge to develop our own ideas intuitively.
Despite being in English, I think there are easy to understand because the images are good and the processes are very clear.

Desde el punto de vista estético, puede parecer un libro algo pasado de moda, sin embargo creo que puede ser un libro muy útil, además, si utilizáis telas más modernas conseguiréis un aspecto más actual en vuestras piezas.
Tiene trece proyectos de asientos clásicos, como el mítico sofá chesterfield, o el sillón orejero de toda la vida.... nos muestran los patrones para hacer la estructura en madera y cómo tapizarlos.
Está en inglés, pero las instrucciones están hechas muy claras.

From an aesthetic point of view, this book may seem a bit old fashioned, however I think it can be very useful. If you use more modern fabrics you'll get a contemporary look.
It has thirteen classic seats projects, some like the mythical chesterfield sofa, or the wing chair .... In the book you can find patterns to make the wooden structure  and how to upholster.
It is written in English, but the steps are very clear depict.

Por ahora esto es todo sobre recomendaciones de libros sobre miniaturas, si descubro alguno más os tendré informados.

Herbarium

Cuando estaba en primero de BUP, uno de los mejores profesores que he tenido en mi vida, Francisco Texidó,  profesor de Ciencias Naturales, nos mandó realizar un herbario.
Recuerdo que mi padre me ayudó a buscar plantas, secarlas y a hacer la clasificación con sus libros.

...Mientras realizaba esta escena, pensaba en ambos, con un inmenso cariño, y por extensión, pensaba en los buenos profesores que he tenido, a si que a todos ellos va dedicada esta pequeñez.

When I was in the first course of the secondary school, One of the best teachers that I ever have,Francisco Teixidó, the teacher of Natural Sciences asked us to make an herbarium. 
I remember my father helping me to find plants, dry them and make the classify with his books.

...While I was doing this scene, I've being thinking on both with great affection and additionally, I was thinking on all the good teachers I have had, thus I dedicate this smallness to all them.

Para realizar esta escena, he partido de tres tableros de MDF de 6 mm de grosor ensamblados con canutillo.
He tratado cada superficie de forma distinta, una pared lleva ladrillos hechos mediante una plantilla y masilla plástica tapa grietas, manchados con cera y sombras de ojos.

To make this scene, I used three MDF boards of 6mm thick, assembled with little sticks..Each surface has a different finished , a wall with bricks made using a template and wall putty cover colored with wax and eye shadows. 

 

Otra pared lleva listones de madera, y el suelo es un diseño en espiga hecho con madera de balsa.

Another wall covered with wooden slats, and the floor with wood too but with a different design.

Para que la madera sea oscura pero también cálida, le he dado primero un tinte color roble y después ébano.

I dyed first in oak and them in ebony to get a dark but warm colored wood.

 He hecho y ensamblado la parte de arriba de una de las paredes, también de madera, para conseguir la inclinación del techo. También he realizado una estantería abierta en el otro lateral.

 I made the top of a wall with wood too, and on the oder side of the scene I also made an open shelf.

Para hacer el techo, he utilizado un cartón muy duro. Por debajo le he puesto listones de madera y bigas. Por fuera un cartón pintado a esponja con tonos grises, me ha servido para imitar las placas de pizarra del tejado.

To make the roof , I used a peace of hard cardboard. One side covered with strips of wood, and the other side with simulated slate tiles. Cardboard painted using a sponge.

La mesa está muy lijada y blanqueada (se pinta con acrílico blanco y se limpia con un trapo de algodón antes de que seque)

The table is very sanded and bleached ( paint first with white acrilic and clean before it dry)

Para hacer las plantas del herbario, he utilizado algunos cortadores y papel de seda de diferentes colores.
En pequeñas carpetas de papel de estraza marrón, colocamos una cartulina con la planta seca. En la parte inferior una pequeña ficha con su nombre científico, descripción y usos. Finalmente una hoja de papel de seda protege a la planta dentro de la carpeta.
La cesta donde está el herbario está hecha con malla metálica pintada con acrílicos.

To make the herbal plants, I used some cutters and tissue paper in different colors.
In brown paper folders we put the dried plant glued on a cardboard, at the bottom of it small label with the plant scientific name, description and uses. Finally a sheet of tissue paper protects the plant inside the folder.
The basket where the herbarium rests is made with metal mesh painted with acrylics.

El baúl está hecho con madera de balsa de distintos grosores.

The trunk is made of balsa wood in different thicknesses.

Para hacer la tapadera, le he dado tinte y mientras estaba húmeda la he atado a un palo grueso para que se secara con esa forma. La bisagra es un trozo de tela, y el interior está forrado con papeles de periódico en miniatura.

 To make the cover, I dyed the wood and when it was still wet, I tied it to a thick round stick and let it dry. The hinge is a piece of cloth, and the interior is lined with miniature newspapers.

La prensa para secar las plantas son dos tablas y dos correas, y en su interior las hojas de papel de periódico envuelven cada planta.

The press to dry the plants is made with two boards, and two straps. Inside, between the boards, newspapers envelop the plants.

Pero en un herbario, no sólo hay plantas secas, también hay semillas, frutos, cortezas, muestras de madera, plantas conservadas en líquidos preservativos, plantas acuáticas, fósiles, hongos...
De modo que para esos ejemplares, he utilizado infinidad de botes de cristal rellenos con musgo, flores secas, cortezas, arena, conchas, semillas, plantas de acuario y para hacer el líqudo he usado resina de cristal de dos componentes.

But in a herbarium, there is not only dried plants, there are also seeds, fruits, bark, wood samples plants preserved in preservative liquids, aquatic plants, fossils, fungi, plants ...
So I used to these specimens, some glass jars filled with moss, dried flowers, bark, sand, shells, seeds, aquarium plants, etc. The liquid is cristal resin.

Y finalmente una silla hecha soldando alambre, algunos libros con las tapas de cuero...

Finally, I made the chair by soldering wire, I made some books with pieces of leather...

...un cuadro con una hoja que conserva sólo los nervios, unas flores en un tarro de cristal, un mortero, algunas ilustraciones...

..a picture with the nerve skeleton of a leaf, some fresh flowers in a jar, a pestle and a mortar, some pictures...

 ...flores secas colgadas del techo, las lámparas marroquíes, cuyo tutorial podéis encontrar aquí...

 ...dried flowers and plants hanging from the ceiling and the morocan lamps, wich tutorial is here,..
