As has been happening in recent years, I participate again in the Advent Calendar that Matxalen organizes every year which you can visit in this link.

I have been involved in a proyect that all my Instagram folowers surely know: a Tudor dollhouse. So that, the tutorial of today is a Tudor cupboard.
My cupboard will be set on the floor, because of my house characteristic, but they used to be hung to protect the food.

I have used 1, 2 and 3 mm thick samba wood and some wooden balaustres. (The wood of 3 mm is exclusively for the surface above and the one of 1 mm thick to make the door as I explain later)
First I designed this piece of furniture (elevation view and profile). I have drawn all the parts using paper measured in millimeters. This is a particulary useful paper to calculate all the dimensions.

I have drawn on the 2 mm thick wooden board the different parts of this piece of furniture (except the surface above). Take always into account the direction of the wood grain.
This is not a hard wood so you can cut it with a good cutter, but in my case I have also used a saw for the transverse cuts.

Once the pieces have been cut, I have dyed them, It is better now, to avoid lighter spots because the glue prevents the wood from absorbing the dye.

I have glued toguether the lower part, the sides and the back side of the furniture.

To make the front part, I had six turned balaustres. I have cut two of them two millimeters shorter than the rest (one millimeter for each end), because they were for the door.
To make the door: I cut two tiny pieces of wood 1mm thick and 22 mm long, and I have rounded one end. I have glued the two shorter balaustres to the tiny woods, and in the rounded part I have put two small nails. To prevent the wood from cracking I have previously made the holes with a manual mini-drill.

I have glued a wooden board 2mm under the wooden surface above to fit well with the sides of the furniture. It has the same size as the interior shelf that I have also fixed.

I have made some small holes where the tips that works as hinges of the door will be hammed and I have placed the top surface of the furniture with the barred door already in place.
To finish the front, I put glue to the ends of the other bars and I have stuck them.

You have the plans with their actual measurements in the next printable.

This type of furniture does not need a handle, because the barred door allows to open and close it easily. You can carve or pirogram as I did, some ornaments to give it some substance. I did it just before dyeing the woods.

In this video you can see this piece of furniture next to other that I will show you when I will finish the house.

Espero que os haya gustado este tutorial.
Un abrazo

I hope you like this tutorial.

    1. Actually, there are no hinges. they are two points nailed to the wood one up and another down that allow to open and close the door . You can see it in the fiveth picture.
