Último día del calendario de Adviento 2016- Last day of the Advent calendar 2016

Matxalen has given me the chance to finish the Advent calendar of 2016, and since she thought that it was a good idea to write a tutorial about lamps, I decide to make some lanterns to put candles.

I have drawn with rulers and a compass (on paper for watercolor and tempera Canson of 370g / m² of density) different models of lanterns. (We are talking about polyhedrons, and in particular orthogonal prisms)
Although you can draw the base of the lanterns attached to the body, I preferred to do it apart, in case I want to put lights in the future.

Primero he recortado las ventanas para evitar así roturas, después he recortado completamente el contorno.

First I have cut the windows to avoid breakings and then I have completely cut the outline.

Pegad

With the cutter and without pressing, I have passed several times to leave a depression that will serve to make the fold perfectly. Always use a ruler, and help you with it also when you fold the paper. Glue it

Con un troquelador de formas, he cortado algunos trozos de papel y he adaptado algunas partes para adornar los faroles (tendréis que decorarlos conforme a vuestros recursos)

With a punch cutter, I cut several pieces of paper and adapted them to decorate the surface (you will have to adapt the decoration to your resources)

I have painted them first of dark brown, and then you can give different effects painting with a sponge of makeup. In this link you can see more ideas to paint your lanterns.

A bronze lantern with verdigris (brown, turquoise and white)

Two Iron lanterns (with reddish brown paint and then wax and eye shadow)

Another lantern, this time of brass (brown paint, gold wax and turquoise paint in some areas)

When the lanterns are painted we can glue the acetates inside. They can be decorated with glass painting.

I made the bases a little bit bigger to fit the lanterns on them. In the future I will decide if the light will hang or will be on the base.

I made the candles with paper clay. I punched it with a wire to make the hole for the electric wires.
Look at the up side of the candle, there is a depression to hide there the micro LED.

I hope you like this easy way to design your own lanterns.

Sexto día del calendario de Adviento- Sixth day of the Advent Calendar

I bring you on the sixth day of the 2016 Advent Calendar, proposed by Matxalen,  an object that has become fashionable in recent times by the influence of the decorative style shabby. Bird nests.

To make the support structures, I punched some expanded polystyrene balls with brochette sticks. you can make them of different sizes according to the size of the ball.
I wraped them in foil and then in plastic .

First whe glue a lock of tow ant let it dry.

Dejamos secar otra vez.

Apply glue around the ball and stick the lock of tow around it. Also we can aply glue with a brush to fit it, but it is necessary to let the end part of the tow without gluing.
Let it dry again.

Remove the nest from the ball, and give some glue inside with a brush. Finish rolling the rest of the tow inside, to get a spongy look.

To make the eggs, I use DAS air-drying paste. I like to use dark colors and then with a sponge of makeup paint them with lighter acrylic. In this way we get no homogeneous eggs that are more reliable.
In this ocasion I have made three different types of eggs, painting with beige, light blue and bluish green.

In my Instagram, there is a video where you can see all the process

To fill the nests? You can put only the eggs with strong glue, but also you can give them more interest with laces, moss, old photos, metallic objects, flowers, succulent plants, etc.
I leave these links for you to inspire seeing some decorative uses with nests:

When I make nests, I usually do a lot because while I do one the others are drying. Filling them is so enjoyable that it is not tiresome.
I use them for everything, I like them as objects of decoration, but I also like to make brooches, or small still life enclosed in glass domes that serves as pendants.

I hope you have found this tutorial useful
