I've been desiring for a long time a victorian cast iron spiral stairs, because I can imagine a lot of possibilities to make with it: an old library, the study of a Victorian painter or photographer ...

To get it, I used an inexpensive fretwork wood fan.

I disassembled two fans, and I used only that part of each bar that you can see on the picture.

The wood sheet is so thin, that I recommend you to use a little scissors, and sand every step carefully.

I made the holes and glued each two steps face to face, in order to obtain stronger stairs.

I took the high from a miniature stairs that I had, and I drawed the shape of the riser on some wood strips, Them I cut with the scissors.

Pegué cada contrahuella a cada escalón.

I glued every rise on its step

I cut part of each bar fan to design the side of each step.

El eje es una palo de brocheta

The shaft is a brochette stick

To make the stairs rail, I soldered several short wires to a longer one with the same angle.

To make the curve of the staris rail, I only recommend patience and good welds.

I put each rail through the hole in the corresponding step, and I glued a glass bed in the end.

And that is how I did it. These stairs are very beautiful in green bronze or white but I've decided to paint it in black with spray painting , and add rusty remains.
To get that look, I painted with three colors, pumpkin, brown and sunflower.

Thanks for your attention, I hope this post was useful for you.

  22. Thanks a million, Mara, for sharing these instructions! Your staircase is a beauty! I' going to follow your instructions to make one. Just received a fan to make them. Good advise to glue two together for the strength as the wood in fan is very thin!
