I had a lot trimmings of wood accumulated and I did not know how to make the most of them.
I recognize that I've never had seen with close attention the district of favelas of Sao Paulo until I saw the wonderful proyect 'Lus Nas Vielas' of Boa Mistura. I recomend strongly their web page. You will love their work.
Influenced by the color and joy of the project of Boa Mistura, I started my new scene: a favela full of color, light and music.
I stained the wood, crackled or/and painted in different colors.
As usual, I've assembled the three MDF boards with dowels.
To make the floor I glued sand. After it was dried I shook the excess, and I applied gesso and paint using a sponge with yellow and brown .
I made a ramshackle window and put behind the acetate , stained newspapers.
After it was attached, I started from the botton to up, covering the walls with trimmings of wood. I also added a tiny hut in a corner with an opening in the roof in order to hide the battery.
I painted corrugated paper simulating rusty metal, and put those trimmings here and there, also in front of what would be a bar counter , attached to the hut, and on the roof to hide the hole.
I also added a smoke vent made with a straw and paper.
If you like the effect, It is painted with sponge following this tutorial
It only remained to make the details .
A small electric stove made of thick paper and foam board, made in a similar manner to the record player in my Retro Scene.
A beer tap, made taking advantage of a broken handle, tin foil and a tiny plastic container of unknown origin.
A bucket with a can of beer.
At this point, I was stuck. I needed help to get an authentic brazilian atmosphere. So that I thought in Eliana, she is brazilian, she is a great miniaturist, and she is lovable.
She advised me on musical instruments, traditional drinks and discussed the meaning of the title of this scene.
Thank you Eliana for your patience and good advice.
The instruments were quite difficult, a test of infinite patience, but finally I managed to make something similar to a cavaquinho and a pandeiro.
It seems that the liquor brands that I have used, are quite old, that is the reason because they are much more rusty than the Guarana Antarctica ad.
A few cans of the popular Skol cooling in an ice bucket.
To make the garland of lights, I used silk balls from earrings and introduced into them micro LEDs.
It seemed to me a good idea to title this scene with the name 'Desafinados'. Not only to pay homage to the wonderful song of Antonio Carlos Jobín and Newton Mendoça 'Desafinado' composed in response to those who thought the Bossa Nova was music made by musicians out of tune. But also the term ´ out of tune' means something that does not fit, something discordant such as people living apart from society, either because this hateful system reject them or by pure survival based on the insurrection and disobedience .
I hope I did not bore you with a post so long.
