Matxalen has given me the chance to finish the Advent calendar of 2016, and since she thought that it was a good idea to write a tutorial about lamps, I decide to make some lanterns to put candles.
Aunque se puede dibujar la base de los faroles unida al cuerpo, he preferido hacerla a parte, por si en el futuro quiero poner luces.
I have drawn with rulers and a compass (on paper for watercolor and tempera Canson of 370g / m² of density) different models of lanterns. (We are talking about polyhedrons, and in particular orthogonal prisms)
Although you can draw the base of the lanterns attached to the body, I preferred to do it apart, in case I want to put lights in the future.
First I have cut the windows to avoid breakings and then I have completely cut the outline.
With the cutter and without pressing, I have passed several times to leave a depression that will serve to make the fold perfectly. Always use a ruler, and help you with it also when you fold the paper. Glue it
With a punch cutter, I cut several pieces of paper and adapted them to decorate the surface (you will have to adapt the decoration to your resources)

I have painted them first of dark brown, and then you can give different effects painting with a sponge of makeup. In this link you can see more ideas to paint your lanterns.
A bronze lantern with verdigris (brown, turquoise and white)
Two Iron lanterns (with reddish brown paint and then wax and eye shadow)
Another lantern, this time of brass (brown paint, gold wax and turquoise paint in some areas)
When the lanterns are painted we can glue the acetates inside. They can be decorated with glass painting.
I made the bases a little bit bigger to fit the lanterns on them. In the future I will decide if the light will hang or will be on the base.
I made the candles with paper clay. I punched it with a wire to make the hole for the electric wires.
Look at the up side of the candle, there is a depression to hide there the micro LED.
I hope you like this easy way to design your own lanterns.
Os deseo a todos una maravillosa noche y un feliz día de Navidad.
Un fuerte abrazo y mil gracias por estar ahí.
Today in Spain and in other countries, we celebrate Christmas Eve.
