Personalizando muebles - Customizing furniture

Alguna vez he comentado que me gusta restaurar muebles.

Básicamente siempre los trato de la misma forma, los curo, los decapo y les doy cera. Me gusta mucho la madera al natural y no me suelo atrever a darles un tratamiento mas colorido.
Con los muebles en miniatura es diferente, soy mucho más valiente a la hora de experimentar y me gusta envejecerlos, destrozarlos, pintarlos de colores, maltratarlos para después recuperarlos...

I think I've ever said that I like restoring furniture.

Basically I always repeat the same process, first the cure, then I remove the varnish and finally I apply natural wax. I really like bare wood and I do not dare to give them a more colorful treatment.
With miniature furniture is different, I am much braver, and I like to experiment, age them, destroy them, paint with bright colors, and finally restore them …

En esta entrada os voy a enseñar algunos de los muebles que he transformado mediante diferentes tratamientos, pero tenéis algunas técnicas explicadas paso a paso en esta otra entrada.

In this post I'll show you some of the furniture that I have transformed using different treatments. You have the techniques explained step by step in this other post.

Empiezo con un mueble de cocina que he pintado inspirándome en los diseños de Peter Hunt, aunque con colores más claros. Si recordáis, esto ya lo hice hace tiempo en la escena “Como en un nido”.

I start with a kitchen cabinet that I painted inspirated in Peter Hunt's designs, but with pastel colors. If you remenber, I did this before in my scene “Like in a nest”.

La mesa de la cocina está decapada a la cera y tiene el sobre decorado con recortes, fotos, dibujos...después le he dado con barniz. La idea la he sacado de una mesa que hicimos mi marido y yo con tableros de melamina..

The kitchen table is distressed with wax and the board is decorated with scrap paper, photographs, draws, etc and varnish. I got the idea from a table of my own home made by my husband and me.

Las sillas de la cocina, son impresiones 3D que adquirí en Shapeways ; la silla Wishbone de Wegner  la he pintado de verde agua y amarillo; la silla Panton de Verner Panton en azul turquesa, y la silla Tolix de Xabier Pauchard pintada en rosa con efectos de oxidación; la silla Vegetal de Erwan y Ronan Bouroullec la he pintado en naranja. (Disculpad pero no encuentro en enlace exacto pero también la compre en Shapeways)

The kitchen chairs are 3D printed from Shapeways; I painted the Wishbone chair from Wegner green and yellow, the Panton Chair turquose; the Tolix chair of Xavier Pauchard with pink and rusty efects; the Vegetal chair of Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec painted orange. (Sorry, I do not find the link but it is also from Shapeways)

El fregadero, lo he pintado con diferentes colores y le he añadido unos papeles decorados en los paneles frontales de las puertas.

The kitchen sink has decorated papers on the doors, and it is colorfully painted.

Esta cómoda la compré en Vilia Miniature.
La lijé bien y teñí primero de color roble y después de caoba (de este modo tiene más calidez que si sólo se tiñe de caoba) Pinté de rosa fuerte y después le di cera con un poquitín de betún de Judea y doré algunas partes con cera.

I bought this chest of drawers in Vilia Miniature.
I sanded it well and dyed the wood first oak and later mahogany (thus, the color is warmer) I painted hot pink and then gave wax with a tiny bit of bitumen. Finally I applied and golden wax on the edges.

Esta mesilla Reina Ana es un kit de The House of Miniatures. Simplemente la lijé, teñí, volví a lijar y le di cera con betún.

This Queen Anne side table is a kit from The House of Miniatures. I sanded it, dyed, sanded again and gave wax.

El armario del baño, también lo he “maltratado” un poquito. Venía ya barnizado. Le quité los acetatos y lijé suavemente con lana de acero. Después pinté de blanco por fuera y decapé a la cera. Por dentro lo pinté de azul y decapé también. Usé una tarjeta troquelada de scrapbooking para pintar el dibujo en blanco, y después repinté algunas zonas de colores.

In the bathroom, there is another mistreat cupboard. It was varnished. I sanded it, and painted white and distressed with wax. I paintend blue inside and distressed too. Using a perforated card as a template, I painted inside the card design white, and then I added colors.

Para el salón, teñí de color roble una consola alargada y después pinté de blanco. Decapé a la cera, le di betún y puse unos adornos metálicos. En esta entrada podéis aprender a hacer espejos trumeau y otros más.

For the livingroom, I dyed oak a console and distressed with white acrilic and wax with bitumen, also I added some metalic ornaments. In this post you can learn how to make trumeau mirrors and others. 

En el estudio, he puesto una mesa reciclada, aprovechado las patas de una máquina de coser.

In the studio, there is a recicled table using parts of a sewing machine table.

Imagino que ya os podéis hacer una idea de el estilo decorativo, ¡todo muy hippie!, y es que era la mejor manera de mezclar todo lo que me gusta en una sola casa.

Además de estos muebles, la casa tiene otros, que voy haciendo, que voy comprando poco a poco o que me regalan, y que os mostraré más adelante habitación por habitación.
Y para aquellos que tengáis mucha curiosidad, ya sabéis que estoy usando Instagram para mostrar el proceso en tiempo real.

Cocina de verano- Summer kitchen

Hace bastante tiempo puse un tutorial para hacer que una cocina de madera pareciera de metal esmaltado. Compré esa cocina por Internet, y cuando llegó, aunque me gusto la forma, me resultó demasiado grande, de modo que ha estado guardada en una caja hasta que finalmente he hecho una escena para ella.

It is quite a while that I wrote a tutorial to make a wooden stove looks like an emanel one. I bought online that stove, and when it arrived, I found it beautiful but too big, so that, it has been stored in a box until I finally manage to make a scene for it.

El tutorial está en español, pero las imágenes son muy claras, de modo que se entiende perfectamente, sin embargo si alguien tiene alguna pregunta, no dudéis en hacérmela. Siempre contesto a los correos de forma privada.

Tras montar los tres tableros MDF, (una pared es más baja, pues la parte de arriba va a ser de cartón pluma y lleva una ventana) coloqué unas tiras de cinta de carrocero de 1 cm de ancho. Apliqué masilla plástica tapagrietas por esas superficies con una espátula, y antes de que secara del todo, retiré la cinta de carrocero, dejando esos espacios limpios.
Apliqué alkil para evitar que se descascarille y pinté de blanco.

After assembled the three MDF boards (one of the walls is smaller because the top will be of foam board to put a window) I put strips of 1 cm thick masking tape. I applied wall filler and before it was dry I removed the masking tape.
I applied plastic varnish to protect the surface and I painted white.

Después di cera incolora y con sombras de ojos ensucié las paredes.

Then I used wax and eye shadows to get the walls dirty.

Corté unas tablas de madera de 1cm de grosor y las teñí de color roble junto con una ventana de madera. Las coloqué en su sitio a modo de bigas.

I cut wood boards 1cm thick and together with a wooden window I dyed everything colored oak and put them in the right place.

La ventana simula estar emplomada gracias a una pintura en relieve y a pinturas para vitrales.

The window pretends to be a stained glass window by using relief paint and glass paintings.

Hice una pequeñas piezas de madera que irán a modo de sujeción de la viga principal en la fachada

I made small wooden pieces that emulate that are supporting the main beam on the facade.

En el interior de la escena, forré el suelo de madera y teñí de color roble. En las paredes donde no iban las bigas puse unos papeles de scrapbooking con diferente estampado y tamaño a modo de retales.

Inside the scene, I put a wooden floor dyed oak color. On the walls I put scrapbooking peaces of papers with different sizes and pattern, like a patchwork.

Bajo la ventana, un sólo estante azul turquesa recorre todo el espacio, y sobre él puse cuadros, una tetera, platos, mermeladas, un bote de galletas, una bandeja de madera...

Under the window, a single turquoise shelf runs around the room. Above it some pictures, a teapot, some dishes, jams, a jar of cookies, a wooden tray ...

Hice un mandil para colgar bajo el estante, puse unos clavitos para colgar las tazas, las tijeras de cocina, un trapo (con un rotulador indeleble y un trocito de algodón), un agarrador de cocina precioso de Minis de Auxi . Echad un vistazo a su web pues merece la pena.

I made an apron hanging on the rack, put some tacks to hang cups, the kitchen scissors, a cloth (with a permanent marker and a peace of cotton),and I hanged a beautiful potholder from Minis de Aunxi. take a look at her website because it is worth.

La pequeña cesta con la compra es de Miniaturas de Tica, Maru es una excelente cestera en miniatura.

Las sillas Windsor las pinte hace siglos también, y os puse el proceso en un tutorial muy básico sobre cómo preparar la madera antes de pintarla.

I painted these Windsor chairs some centuries ago too, and I put the process in a very basic tutorial about how to prepare wood before painting.

Ángeles Calvache tiene unas manos para las miniaturas increíbles y hace unos días me pidió mi dirección para mandarme un regalo. Cuando llegó, os podéis imaginar la ilusión con que abrí el paquete, sobre todo porque no esperaba encontrar tantas cosas. Decidí entonces hacer una escena con tonos a juego, para mostraros su regalo.

Ángeles Calvache makes amazing miniatures, and a few days ago she asked me about my address to send me a gift. When it arrived, you can imagine the enthusiasm I had while opening the package, especially because I did not expect so many things. I decided them to make a scene with similar colours to show you her present.

He hecho una pequeña escena de dos alturas continuando con la idea que ya visteis en mis escenas “Apuntando alto” y “México lindo”. Utilizar dos alturas es una forma interesante de componer, pues se pueden crear dos ambientes en un espacio muy reducido.

I made a little scene with two heights continuing the idea that I already saw you in my scenes "Aiming high" and "Mexico lindo". Using two heights is an interesting way to compose a because we can create two atmospheres in a very small space.

No tengo sierra eléctrica (pues mi taller está en el dormitorio de invitados, de modo que mis herramientas son muy básicas y limpias) así que he colocado la ventana sobre un soporte de cartón pluma y después he forrado con madera de balsa.
Después he ensamblado los tres tableros MDF y he pegado bien el cartón pluma.

I have no electric saw (since my studio set in the guest bedroom, so my tools are very basic and clean) therefore I put the window on a support foam board and then I covered with balsa wood.
Then I assembled the three MDF and glued the foam board.

He forrado también el suelo con madera de balsa, y he aplicado aceite de linaza para evitar que absorba mucha pintura al blanquearla.
Para blanquear la madera, aplicáis acrílico blanco y seguidamente retiráis el sobrante con un trapo.

I also covered the floor with balsa wood, and have applied linseed oil to avoid absorbing too much white paint.
To whiten the wood, you have to aply white acrylic and then remove the excess with a rag.

He usado un papel de scrapbooking para empapelar la zona de abajo.

I used scrapbooking paper to lined the walls downstairs

La estructura del altillo también está blanqueada y está soportada por unas bigas de color azul pálido.

The structure of the attic is also whited and it is supported by some pale blue beams.

La escalera es de madera de haya y sólo tiene algo de aceite de linaza para nutrir, al igual que la mesa de trabajo.

The staircase is made of beech wood and it only has some linseed oil to nourish, like the desk.

Por fuera he hecho los ladrillos con masilla, he pitado de rojo, le he dado alkil y he espolvoreado polvos de talco.

Outside I made the bricks with putty and painted red, them Alkil and sprinkled talcum powder.

He pintado una mesilla, he hecho el colchón, he añadido las cortinas, y he puesto una colcha de lana con lunares pintados.

I painted a small table, made the mattress, added the curtains, and a wool debspread with painted polka dots.

Y este es el resultado, con los preciosos regalos de Ángeles.
And this is the result, with the beautifull presents of Ángeles. 

Los cojines pintados a mano, el precioso búho y el corazón, los candelabros, la cesta, el pequeño barco y esos delicados huevos dentro de un nido...Gracias Ángeles, no sólo es todo precioso, el gesto me ha conmovido y llenado de alegría.

The handpainted cushions, the lovely owl and the heart shaped cushion , two chandeliers, a basket, the tiny sailboat and those delicate eggs in a nest ... Thank you Ángeles, not only for your lovely present, but also for your gesture that  touched me and filled with joy.

Como no me quiero desprender de estos tesoros, para poner esta escena a la venta, y dado que soy muy mala cosiendo, me he ayudado de las maravillosas manos de Nieves Palacín la cual es la responsable de los cojines de tela impresa que podéis encontrar en su tienda ETSY.

As I do not want to rid of these treasures, to put this scene on sale and taking into acunt that I am not good at sewing,  I have been helped by the wonderful hands of Nieves Palacín which is responsible of the printed fabric cushions that you can find in her ETSY shop.

Y también me he ayudado del talento de Isabel García González que ha realizado la realista jarapa a juego con los cojines y con la agenda que descansa sobre la mesilla.

I had also the help of  a talented woman, Isabel García González who made the realistic jarapa that combines with the cushions and the diary on the table.
