Los libros de Alicia - Alice's books

Hace poco leí “Las aventuras de Alicia en el país de las maravillas” y “Alicia a través del espejo”. Una edición que comenta ambos libros de Lewis Carrol, llena de explicaciones sobre lógica y lingüística de Manuel Garrido, traducida por Ramón Buckley. Un poco ardua y difícil en algunos momentos, pero siempre interesante.
Mientras leía el libro, se fue fraguando en mi mente la imagen de una librería de viejo, y empecé a trabajar en esta nueva escena que lleva por nombre “Los libros de Alicia”

I have recently read "Alice's Adventures in Wonderlandand" and " Through the Looking-Glass and what Alice Found There", an edition of the books of Lewis Carrol, full of logical and linguistic explanations of Manuel Garrido, translated by Ramón Buckley. Sometimes a bit arduous and difficult, but always very interesting.
While I was reading the book, the image of a second hand bookshop was being forged in my mind, and I started working on this new scene wich is called "Alice's books"

Para hacer esta escena, realicé primeramente un armazón con la forma de la tienda en cartón pluma , y lo forré con madera de balsa.
Con unas flores troqueladas hice algunos adornos, coloqué unas barandas con alambre de aluminio y pinté de rojo.

To make this scene, first I made the form of the store with foam board, and then I covered it with balsa wood, I also added some punched flowers like ornaments, and wire aluminum railings.

En principio iba a quedar así, pero tras pintarlo, me resultaba soso y decidí añadirle un escaparate con la esquina redondeada. Para ello, utilicé madera de balsa de 2 milímetros que mojé por ambas caras y até a un bote cilíndrico para que se secara manteniendo esa forma.

I decided to add a window in a rounded corner in order to improve the façade. I used balsa wood of 2 millimeters thick, I wet it on both sides and tied to a cylindrical tin to let it dry keeping that form.

Corté después lo que sería el escaparate (si se hace antes, se corre el riesgo de que la madera se quiebre) y coloqué en el interior unas estructuras curvas con cartón pluma para darle rigidez.

Then, I cut the window space and placed inside curved structures with foam board to give it firmness.

Para la parte inferior de los escaparates utilicé un par de charms de Alicia en el país de las maravillas, uno lo dejé plano y el otro lo curve con cuidado.
For the underneath, I used a couple of charms of Alice in Wonderland, one flat and the other gently curved.

Pinté de rojo todo otra vez y cuando secó lijé en algunas zonas y apliqué cera y sombras de ojos para hacer las pátinas.
Con cera dorada realcé algunos perfiles.

I painted all red again and when it dried I sanded some areas and applied wax and eye shadows to make patinas.
With golden wax I enhance the edges.

Para hacer la pared de piedra de la izquierda, corté con los dedos de forma irregular trozos de cartón de huevos, los pegué con cola, y apliqué masilla tapagrietas con el dedo.

To make the stone wall on the left, I cut with the fingers irregular pieces of egg carton, I glued on the wall and added putty with my fingers. 

Pinté a esponja y añadí Alkil para proteger la superficie y polvos de talco para eliminar los brillos.

Then, I painted it with a sponge and added Alkil (transparent plastic varnish) to protect the surface and talcum powder to remove the shine.

Para el suelo corté unos rectángulos grandes que coloqué algo separados. Apliqué un par de capas de gesso, pintura acrílica negra y Alkil , y de nuevo polvos de talco.

For the floor I cut some large cardboard rectangles and placed them slightly apart. I covered with a couple of coats of gesso, acrylic black paint, Alkil and again talcum powder.

Este es el efecto final visto con más detalle.

This is the resulting effect.

En la pared donde va a estar la tienda, he puesto ladrillos en la parte de fuera, y en el interior, para darle profundidad, una fotografía con colores que me parecían interesantes. Aunque no se va a ver mucho, siempre le dará más interés que si pintamos de un color liso.

The wall of the front of the store has outside bricks, and inside, a photograph with interesting colors to combine each other , this photograph gives also more interest to the composition than if we paint a solid color.

El rótulo de la tienda, está hecho con letras transferibles y rotulador dorado.

The shop sign, is drawn with transfer lettering and a golden marker.

Para el interior del escaparate realicé una celosía sobre la cual coloque unas pequeñas estanterías hechas con palos de polo donde pegué algunos libros. Y terminé de montar el escaparate.

I made a lattice for the big shop window to place two small shelves made with popsicle sticks where stuck some books. I finished installing the window.

Coloqué las luces, dos en el interior que no se van a ver, y una en el exterior. Esta última la realicé con un charm en forma de tiovivo, dentro del cual coloqué un acetato transparentepintado con pintura de vitral de colores.

I placed the lights, two hidden inside the shop and one outside. This one is realized with a carousel little charm, in which I placed a transparent acetate painted with stained glass paintings.

Para hacer el pequeño tejado donde se esconde el interruptor, hice la estructura con papel grueso de acuarela. Y sobre ella pegué las losas de pizarra.
Estas están hechas con masilla tapagrietas sobre un cartón, pintadas de negro y gris.
Volví a pintar las zonas del tejado que quedaron blancas, apliqué dos generosas manos de Alkil y después polvos de talco para matar el brillo.

To make the small roof where the switch is hidden I did the structure with thick watercolor paper. And I glued the tiles. These are made of plastic putty on cardboard, painted black and gray.
I painted again the areas of the roof in white, and I applied two generous layer of Alkil and talcum powder.

Terminé de añadir los detalles exteriores: un macetero un poco especial...

I finished adding up the outer details: a special planter...

...una maleta vieja con libros de segunda mano sobre una silla de madera...

...an old suitcase with used books inside on a wood chair

...un cartel indicador...
...a sign...

...un perro observando la puerta con ansiedad mientras espera a su dueño...

 ...a dog staring at the door and waiting anxiusly to its owner...

Esta escena, apareció el  mes pasado en la revista "Miniaturas", el nº 192. Me gustaría agradecer a Madelva Fernandez de Rojas, directora de dicha revista,el apoyo que me presta y la posibilidad que me brinda de compartir mi trabajo al lado de grandes miniaturistas.

Indignación- Indignation

Últimamente tengo mucho trabajo y asuntos personales que requieren mi atención, y casi no tengo tiempo para actualizar el blog lo que me gustaría. Os pido disculpas por ello. 

Hoy os muestro una escena que salió publicada en la revista "Miniaturas" del mes pasado.

Lately I have a lot of work and personal matters that require my attention, and I have no time to update the blog as I would like. I apologize for that.

Today I show a scene that was published in the journal "Miniaturas" last month.

Tengo la sospecha de que haciendo miniaturas no voy a cambiar el mundo, sin embargo también me gusta pensar que todos podemos ser reivindicativos en todas las facetas de nuestra vida y por tanto susceptibles de cambiar nuestro entorno más cercano y por extensión, el mundo donde vivimos.

I suspect that I will not change the world making miniatures, but I also like to think that all of us can defend our rights in any facets of live. Each of us is subject to change our close environment and by extension the hole world.

Podemos empezar a pequeña escala en nuestro día a día, haciéndole la vida más agradable a los demás, empatizando con sus problemas, ayudando a encontrar soluciones; después podemos continuar a una escala media, denunciando injusticias, mostrando públicamente nuestra solidaridad con las víctimas de cualquier abuso; y finalmente a gran escala, podemos cambiar el mundo enfrentándonos al poder cuando este es corrupto y permite o fomenta injusticias. Todos estamos indignados, y debemos de seguir luchando por hacernos oír, nos va la vida en ello, de modo que no debemos desistir, aunque los medios nos ignoren y sólo hablen de nosotros cuando estalla la violencia.

We can start changing the world on a small scale in our daily lives, by making life more pleasant for others, empathizing with people problems, helping to find solutions; then we can continue on a half scale, denouncing injustices, publicly showing our solidarity with the victims of any abuse; and finally, on a large scale, we can change the world by fighting against corrupt governments that allows or promotes injustics. All of us are outraged, and we must continue fighting for being listened, our lifes are in it, so we must not give up, though the media use to ignore us and talk about us only when violence erupts.

No hace falta ser un “antisistema” ,como le gusta decir a los medios de comunicación, para ver lo injustas que son las opciones que nos ofrecen los gobiernos, simplemente hay que recordar lo que dice nuestra Constitución o la Declaración de los Derechos Humanos para ver que hay un mundo posible mucho mejor que el que tenemos y que está inventado hace años.

No need to be an "anti-sistem" as the media likes to say, to see how unjust are the options that governments offer, just remember what our Constitutions say or the Declaration of Human Rights to see that there is a better possible world invented years ago.

Os dejo por tanto el paso a paso de una escena que representa mi solidaridad con todos aquellos que intentan cambiar el mundo. Una escena que representa un local en un callejón, un antro sospechoso donde quizás hay un grupo de personas fraguando una revolución.

I show you the step by step of a scene that represents my solidarity with all those people who try to change the world. A scene depicting a local in an alley, a suspected dump where perhaps there is a group of people plotting a revolution. 

Para imitar el asfalto, he aplicado con espátula una masilla negra de mica comprada en una tienda de Bellas Artes.

To mimic the asphalt, I applied lack mica putty with a spatula, I bought it in a Fine Arts store.

Con cartón pluma he hecho los ladrillos y la acera, y he recubierto con varias capas de gesso para endurecerlo. 

Para pintar la acera, he aplicado con esponja acrílico blanco y negro de forma irregular.
La pared de ladrillos está pintada con varios tonos rojizos de acrílico, y una pátina final con esponja de acrílicos blanco y marrón muy aguado para homogeneizar el tono.

I made the bricks wall and the sidewalk with foam board, and I coated their surfaces with several layers of gesso in order to harden.
To paint the sidewalk, I applied with sponge, black and white acrylic at the same time.
The brick wall is painted with various acrylic reds, and a final patina with very watery white and bround acrylic to homogenize the hole tone.

La puerta y la ventana están hechas con diferentes maderas. Las he pintado primero en marrón, y después con tonos anaranjados y azulados buscado distintos efectos de óxido.
El cristal de la ventana es un acetato rígido con unos periódicos sucios en miniatura.

The door and window are made of different woods painted in brown first and then, with orange and blue tones to get some oxide effects.
The window glass is a rigid acetate with some dirty miniature newspapers.

He copiado en la pared el diseño del graffiti que había diseñado previamente, y lo he pintado con pintura acrílica.

I copied the design on the wall of graffiti that had previously designed, and painted with acrylics.

He añadido unos cables, un timbre, unos números grandes de madera, una lámpara hecha con partes de un bolígrafo y una campanilla; he añadido una bicicleta, una rayuela dibujada con tiza, unas cajas de pizza, varios carteles y un contenedor de basura...

I added some wires on the facade, a bell, two large wooden numbers, a lamp made with parts of a pen and a bell, a bicycle, a chalk hopscotch, two pizza boxes, several posters and a trash container, a stain of ...
