La casa por el tejado- The cart before the horse

Esta escena ha salido publicada en la revista "Miniaturas" de este mes, y entenderéis el nombre de esta entrada pues para hacerla, empecé por el tejado, cosa que no parece muy profesional según el refranero.

This scene apears in the magazine "Miniaturas" of this month, and you will understand the tittle of this post because to make it, I started with the roof, which does not seem very professional according to the traditional  proverbs. (This spanish proverb means to build the house from the roof first and not from the foundation , and it has its equivalent in English, “Put the cart before the horse”)

El entramado de vigas está hecho con madera de balsa gruesa. Sobre él, láminas de madera más fina, y sobre éstas, las tejas imitando lascas de pizarra. Como es uno de mis elementos habituales, no lo explico al detalle aquí, pero podéis ver el tutorial en este enlace.

The structure of beams is made with thick balsa wood. Above it, thiner wood sheets, and on these sheets, tiles of fake slate flakes. You can see the slate tutorial here.

Las paredes del diorama, están hechas con tableros de MDF.
Sobre ellas he pegado cartón pluma de 1 cm de ancho para poder esconder por detrás los cables de la instalación eléctrica.
Ambas superficies las he cubierto con madera de balsa fina a modo de tablones, además, en una de ellas he colocado la puerta y en la otra una ventana.

The walls of the diorama, are made with MDF.
On one of the walls I glued 1 cm wide foam board to hide the wiring.
I have covered both foam board surfaces with thin wood strips. One of them has the door under the roof and the other has a window.

Con el un poquito más del ancho del porche, he realizado unos escalones de cartón pluma y los he forrado con madera, el espacio interior servirá para guardar la pila.

With a bit more of the porch width, I made the steps of foam board and I covered with wood. The interior has a little space to hide the switch and the battery.

He pintado de verde la puerta y la ventana. Las decorativas bisagras son simuladas y están hechas con un elemento de bisutería cortado por la mitad.

I painted green the door and the window. The decorated non-working hinges are made with an item of jewelery cut in half.

Para darle a la fachada una apariencia deteriorada, primero he aplicado tinte color roble por algunas zonas. Después he aplicado pintura marrón por algunas zonas y la primera fase de un craquelador pero por aquí y por allá, pintura blanca y la segunda fase del craquelador. Para conseguir grietas pequeñitas, he aplicado calor con un secador de manualidades.

To get a deteriorated appearance of the walls ,first I applied oak color dye in some areas. After that I applied brown acrilic paint in some areas and the first phase of a crackle product here and there, next, white paint and finally, the second phase of the crackle product. To get tiny cracks, I applied heat with a craft dryer.

El suelo está hecho con masilla plástica tapa-grietas y una plantilla. Lo he pintado a esponja con colores ocres. Y en la pared de la ventana, aunque no se va a ver mucho por haber una cortina, he pegado una fotografía con un interior para darle algo de profundidad.

The floor is made with plastic putty and a stones template. I painted it using a sponge. On the wall of the window, I glued a picture with an interior to give it some visual depth even though it is not possible to see a lot through the curtains.

Tras ensamblar los tres tableros, he pegado las fachadas con los cables por detrás y la pila y el interruptor en la parte de abajo, bajo la escalera de entrada.

After assembling the three panels, I glued the facades with the cables behind them. Also the battery and the switch are fixed on the bottom, under the doorsteps.

Para hacer los canalones, he usado estaño y soldadura metálica en frío para pegar las partes. En las tuberías también, aunque interior es un tubo de silicona, para que no pierda la forma cilíndrica.
Uno de los canalones lleva una cadena para conducir el agua al suelo sin salpicar, y el otro se conecta a la tubería. 

En la parte superior de ambos he puesto musgo.
También he realizado otro canalón para ponerlo bajo la ventana como jardinera.

To make the roof gutters, I used tinfoil and to glue them, two-component adhesive for metals. In the pipe too, but inside it there is a silicone tube to keep the cylindrical shape.
I put a chain in one of the roof gutters to drive the water to the ground, and inside, moss.
I also made another gutter to put under the window as a gardener.

Con estaño he realizado la lámina metálica que cubre la junta entre el porche y la pared.

I made the foil that covers the joint between the porch and the wall with tin.

Los faroles y el buzón están hechos con papel grueso de acuarela, alambre y pintura acrílica.

The lanterns and the mailbox are made with thick watercolor paper, wire and acrylic paint.

He hecho los parterres usando papel con musgo, del que se vende en Navidad, y unas piedrecillas rectangulares de un coleccionable.

I made the parterres using paper with moss, which is sold at Christmas, and rectangular stones of a collectable.

Con latón y unos abalorios he realizado un móvil que cuelga de uno de los canalones.

With brass and some beads I made a mobile hanging from one of the roofgutters.

Para terminar he puesto una mecedora frente a la puerta muy envejecida por la intemperie, y sobre ella una joya que me gustaría enseñaros, que compré en la Feria de Miniaturas Online en español, es una de esas cositas que voy comprando poco a poco para mi propio disfrute, en este caso una toquilla maravillosamente hecha de Minis de Auxi.

Finally I put a rocking chair in front of the door very distressed by the weather, and on it , a jewel that I bought at the Online Miniatures Show in spanish. It is one of those little treasures that I am buying little by little for my own enjoyment. This shawl is really beautifully crafted by Minis de Auxi.

Apuntando alto- Aiming high

Generalmente, la escenas que más me gusta hacer son exteriores realistas, porque me encanta tratar las superficies e imitar los diferentes materiales. Sin embargo, a veces me apetece hacer algo más dulce, como la escena que os muestro en esta entrada y que salió publicada en la revista Miniaturas de julio de 2014.

Generally, the scenes that I enjoy the most, are realistic exteriorss, because I love working surfaces and imitate different materials. However, sometimes I feel like doing something sweeter, like the scene I show you in this post wich was published in the journal Miniaturas July 2014.

Tenía el inconveniente de contar con tres tableros de diferentes tamaños, sin embargo lo que en un principio era un inconveniente, terminó convirtiéndose en una ventaja.
Para hacer el suelo, utilicé recortes de madera de balsa del mismo grosor y los pinté de colores luminosos. Lijé suavemente y apliqué cera virgen

I had the disadvantage of having three different sized boards, however what was initially a drawback, it has become an advantage.
To make the floor, I used cuttings of balsa wood with the same thickness but peinted in different bright colors. I lightly sanded and applied beeswax.

La pared del fondo está recubierta por los dos lados con masilla plástica tapa-grietas y una plantilla con ladrillos . He cortado la forma de una ventana en esa pared y tras pintarla de blanco, he ensamblado suelo y la pared mediante canutillos hechos con brochetas de madera.

The back wall is covered on both sides with plastic putty for walls using a bricks template. I cut the shape of a window on that wall and painted the wall in white. I've assembled the floor and the wall with wooden skewers.

Pinté la ventana de blanco, y la decapé mediante lijado. Para hacer las vidrieras, utilicé acetato rígido, y sobre él, dibujé las lineas con pinturas que imitan el emplomado. Lo hice por los dos lados, pues si no, uno de ellos queda plano y no se ve bonito.
Cuando hubo secado, pinté el acetato con pinturas para vitral de diferentes colores y de forma aleatoria.

I painted the window and sanded it. To make the stained glass I used a special paint that imitates it. I made it on both sides of the acetate because it looks more beautiful. Them I painted it in different colors with glass paint.

Sobre un trozo de madera de balsa de 1 cm de grueso he hecho unas muescas transversales, simulando tablones gruesos de madera. Y lo he ensamblado a la pared del fondo con la ventana colocada ya en su sitio.

On a piece of 1 cm thick balsa wood I made transverse notches, simulating wooden boards. And I assembled it to the back wall with the window already placed.

He ensamblado también el tablero MDF izquierdo, el cual por la parte de atrás lleva ladrillos y por dentro un papel rosa de lunares que podéis encontrar en este enlace.
He colocado unos listones de madera gruesos, simulando un entramado de vigas, tanto por dentro (en blanco) como por fuera (en color roble)

I have also joined the left MDF board, which back side is covered with bricks and the front side is papered with pink polka dot paper that you can download here.
I placed some thick wooden slats, simulating timber frames, inside (in white) and outside (oak color).

Los muebles estaban comprados en crudo. Para no recargar el espacio visualmente, pues hay mucho color y poco espacio, los pinté en blanco y con lijas de las uñas, decapé suavemente.

The furniture was purchased unpainted. To avoid overdecorate the space considering that there are lots of color and little space, I painted them in white and also sanded.

La escena me permitía crear una doble altura, de modo que en el espacio de arriba puse una cama.

The scene allowed me to create a double-height, so I placed a bed. 

Con alambre galvanizado y un soldador hice una escalera sobre la cual descansa una estructura de madera que a su vez se apoya sobre las bigas blancas de la pared.

With galvanized wire and a soldering iron I made a ladder, the structure of it and the wood beam support the bed platform.

Para terminar, hice los detalles que dan vida a la escena: un dispensador de cintas de colores bajo la ventana, un revistero que cuelga de un lateral de mueble, hecho con alambre fino soldado; libros, llaves y letras de madera sobre el mueble; telas, cuadros, caja de herramientas botes y cajas dentro del mueble, cuadros, carteles, un flexo sin cables, un tocadiscos, una caja de discos...

Finally, I made the details that give life to the scene: a tape dispenser under the window, a magazine rack hanging from the side of closet made with fine wire welded; books, keys and wooden letters; fabrics, boxes with tools, pictures, posters, a reading lamp without cable, a record player, a box of records ...

Para hacer el tocadiscos he utilizado cartón pluma de 5 mm de grosor, papel grueso de acuarela, papel de scrapbooking, tela y restos de otras cosas.

To make the record player I used foam board, watercolor paper, scrapbooking paper, fabric and remnants of other things.
